LBYSO is looking for motivated, responsible people to be soccer coaches! Experience, whether it be as a coach, player, or fan of the game is always a big plus, but even if you’re new to soccer, LBYSO will help to train and prepare you to either be a new coach or even a better coach. We offer classes, certification, and lots of resources to make getting started a lot easier. You can of course coach your own child or even coach a team even if you have no kids.
This a great way to give back to your community and help to give kids of all ages a positive, structured, memorable experience. You could be that coach people like us always remember positively when we think back to when we played sports as kids. So take the plunge and be apart of something great! If you don’t do it, who will?
If you’re interested, download and fill out the Coaches Application, and even if your just curious please don’t hesitate to contact our Head Coach, Alan Furman at headcoach@lbyso.org to have any questions you may have answered. Also take a look at our Coaches Corner page to see all kinds of information, including great instructional videos, and soccer drill sites!
Thanks, and we’ll see you on the soccer field!

The Galaxy Clinic that was held on April 28th was a great success. Three Galaxy players, Todd Dunivant, Donovan Ricketts and Tony Sanneh were present to participate in soccer drills and sign autograhs. TONS of LBYSO members were in attendance from all levels including Spring Rec, Fall Rec, Spring Select, Signature and Club. Each participant received 2 Galaxy Tickets for the May 2 game and a Galaxy Soccer Ball.

A great time was had by all at the May 2nd Galaxy game versus the Red Bulls as well. The Galaxy won!! which was great, but especially gratifying was the fact that 12 lucky LBYSO players who attended the Galaxy clinic April 28 came up BIG winners in the raffle to be BALL KIDS at that game. Alyssa Haack and her friend JJ Ayon shared this photo moment.

A big thank you to Gary Gomez and the entire Galaxy organization for making the clinic and the game such a success. It was especially nice of Landon Donovan to take the time after the game to talk and autograph shirts.

LBYSO is offering a two-day referee clinic on August 29th & 30th at Cabrillo High School. The class will be from 8AM to 5PM both days. The two-day clinic will cost $65.
This is an entry level clinic that is open to people that have never refereed before. Completion of the clinic will earn you an ‘R-8′ certification. Those that possess this R-8 certification will be qualified to referee games at all age levels within our league. You will also be eligible to join a referee organization and be paid to referee games in the future. The clinic is open to anyone who is 14yrs or older.
LBYSO is actively recruiting referees. Parents and older siblings are encouraged to get involved. It’s a great way to learn the game, get more involved in your child’s sporting activities, support your community and get some great exercise!
IMPORTANT NOTE: All teams will will be responsible for supplying at least one referee this season. Help support your child’s team and the league by becoming a referee!
As an added incentive, all those that referee 10 games this season will have one of their child’s registration fees waived for the Fall 2010-11 season, and if 15 games are refereed all children in the immediate family are free for Fall 2010-11 season.
Please contact James Dixon for further information at headreferee@lbyso.org
